Its A..... Possum?!?

Yeah, so last night in the middle of the night, we had a possum experience which is becoming an annual occurance at the Crisp residence. I asked Chad to investigate the source of the consistant hour-long barking spree that my FAVORITE lab Peyton was enjoying. Upon his return he informed me that she was crazy and just barking at the sky.

If you know anything about Chad, you'll understand why I was skeptical of his report. He sleeps so soundly that he may have been sleep-walking when he went outside to check on the dogs. So needless to say, I put on my t-shirt and flipflops and head outside. The first thing my flashlight came across was a set of beady eyes up in the tree dangling about 3 feet above Peyton's doghouse. I went out to confirm my suspicions, and sure enough there was a little baby Possum. YUCK!

It was hissing and grasping the tree limb for dear life. It was obvious that Peyton had already munched on the baby a bit, cause the Possum's hair was wet and slobbery. Peyton looked at me adoringly as if she thought I'd come out to help her catch it for dinner.

I went back inside and got a REALLY big gift bag from Lake's birthday, and a big stick. After beating on the tree limb for a few minutes and hoping the hissing little rodent wouldn't fall on me, it finally dropped into the bag. I quickly ran it over to the fence line and tossed it into the neighbor's yard. I think they'd rather have the possum, then the barking dogs.

The odd thing about this story is that this is the second possum in less than a year I've caught while my two brave men of the house slept peacefully inside. I think I should be given my own nature show on Animal Planet at this point. Lets just say Jeff Corwin ain't got nothin' on Leah Crisp. It was nice to retreat to a cool quiet bedroom after the dogs were satisfied that their yard was rodent free.

On a completely unrelated note, I'll try to post pics of the friends and family from Lake's birthday soon.

Hey, pest lady, how are you with snakes? 'Cause I've got about 20 (and counting) that you could deal with.

This is a great story. I can see you out there batting at the tree like a mad-woman! LOL. You may have more Grandma Raison in you than we thought...
